WHY REAL? BY MAX FRASER
Exercise and movement has always centred me, mentally and emotionally. I enjoy going into my body and emptying my mind - it is active meditation. The older I get the more I appreciate the joy of unencumbered movement - enlivening every part of my body, getting every muscle activated, connected and coordinated. In doing so I am reminded that we live in our bodies, not just our minds and that movement is what we are designed for.
Unencumbered movement and an empty mind allow me to live in the fullness of each moment.
When I exercise or move I feel a great sense of individual freedom - a freedom to express myself, a rarity in a society often found wanting of 'shoulds' and prescribed behaviours. Exercise and movement are a ritual for me to express my intentions physically and this practice builds great self-confidence. It's a ritual I enjoy regularly!
Exercise and movement gives me a sense of agency - I am in control. When either my skill or my will meets resistance, I find out how much I want to push for the desired outcome. This is very empowering and helps me overcome self-limiting beliefs.
It was when I encountered the duress of boxing that a deep appreciation grew for how influential our minds are in accomplishing hard things. And this is where the vision for REAL is anchored - we exist to inspire in our audience a curiosity in how much better they can be, mentally, physically and emotionally through physical action. We are for those quietly forging physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. A determined, continual pursuit of better for ourselves, our community and our garments.
"What you wear matters - it elevates you"
- Max Fraser
Exercise is such a potent and natural force for good. As information and intelligence become the domain of computers, we place an increasing value on the human abilities that cannot be automated: physicality, mentality and emotion. Be you - be REAL.
